Casco Bay C.A.N. Coalition...Create Awareness Now to Reduce Youth Substance Abuse
What is Casco Bay C.A.N.?
Mentored by 21 Reasons, Casco Bay C.A.N. is a coalition of individuals, organizations, and businesses who work together to reduce youth substance abuse. We do this by using environmental, or cultural, strategies (for example policy, media & marketing, law enforcement) to change community attitudes and availability of substances.
Who is involved in Casco Bay C.A.N.?
Casco Bay C.A.N. is made up of representatives from schools, law enforcement, parent groups, youth organizations, treatment agencies, and many other concerned community members. Casco Bay C.A.N. serves the towns of Falmouth, Cumberland, North Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Freeport & Pownal.
What are the goals of Casco Bay C.A.N.?
Strengthen parental enforcement & monitoring by dispelling common myths around underage drinking, increasing parental knowledge of youth substance abuse, and empowering parents to prevent youth substance abuse themselves
Strengthen enforcement through increasing law enforcement violation rates for underage drinking
Reduce youths’ access to alcohol, marijuana & other drugs from parents, older siblings, and friends
Strengthen messages around alcohol & marijuana sent to youth by adults in the community
